The Google-owned company to pay $24.5M US to Trump over account suspension after Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol
Google is the latest big tech company to settle lawsuits brought by Trump. In January, Meta agreed to pay $25 million US to settle a lawsuit over his 2021 suspension from Facebook. Elon Musk's X agreed to settle a similar lawsuit brought against the company then known as Twitter for $10 million US. The settlement does not constitute an admission of liability, the filing says. Google confirmed the settlement but declined to comment beyond it.

The disclosure of the settlement came a week before a scheduled Oct. 6 court hearing to discuss the case with U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez-Rogers in Oakland, Calif.

Edward Kamau Gituku Arrest over trafficking Kenyans to Russia

Trusted sources revealed that he is linked with Global Face Agencies, which authorities suspect is responsible for luring unsuspecting, desperate job seekers into non-existent jobs in Moscow Some people were reported to have been turned into conscripts and forced to help the Russian forces in fighting Ukraine
Investigators from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) raided an apartment in Athi River, Machakos County, where tens of job seekers had been confined awaiting further instructions.

They said they had gathered evidence showing that desperate job seekers were being tricked into paying between KSh1.65 million and KSh2.31 million for visas, travel, accommodation, and logistics, with assurances of a monthly salary. Those unable to pay or struggling to raise the full payment within 35 days were slapped with a 1% daily penalty. On Wednesday, September 24, detectives from the DCI’s Transnational Organised Crime Unit raided Great Wall Apartments in Athi River, Machakos county, where 21 Kenyans were locked inside a house as they awaited processing for travel to Russia.

During the operation, officers arrested Edward Kamau Gituku, believed to be coordinating the recruitment and travel arrangements. Investigators said the victims were scheduled to travel on different dates between September and October. Recovered during the raid were travel documents, cheque books, job offer letters from multiple countries, and an agreement suggesting a formalised recruitment structure.

One of the documents pointed to a one-year partnership between Global Face Human Resource Ltd and Ecopillars Manpower Ltd, signed to recruit, screen, and deploy Kenyans to Russia. However, speaking a day after his arraignment, Gituku, through his lawyers Cliff Ombeta and Danstan Omari, said he runs an honest enterprise. Gituku sought to quash the assertion by the DCI that he is operating a racket conning unsuspecting civilians with fake job offers in Russia, only to end up as conscripts. "It is not true that the people who were arrested or who were reported to be rescued were minors. His company has a contract with the Russian military forces, an equivalent of KDF," Omari said.

The lawyer added that Gituku had been procedurally contracted to recruit officers formally attached to the Kenyan Defence Forces. "They have a contract to recruit ex-military officers from Kenya. They have a contract validly signed by the government of Russia to recruit ex-military officers who have exited the Kenyan military and they have been discharged and given a certificate that they have been cleared by the KDF. They have no liability, they have no pending issue, they have been given a green card," added the lawyer.

Reports indicate that Riek Machar, the First Vice President of South Sudan, was charged with treason, murder, and crimes against humanity in September 2025

The charges stem from his alleged involvement in orchestrating attacks by an ethnic militia on federal forces earlier in the year.
On September 22, 2025, South Sudan's First Vice President, Riek Machar, appeared in a courthouse in Juba to face charges of treason, murder, and crimes against humanity
. These charges stem from his alleged involvement in militia attacks against federal forces in March 2025.
Key details of the case
  • Charges: Machar was formally indicted with murder, treason, and crimes against humanity, according to South Sudan's Justice Minister, Joseph Geng.
  • Allegations: The charges are connected to a March 2025 attack by the White Army militia on the northeastern town of Nasir. Authorities claim that the militia operated under the command and influence of leaders from the Sudan People's Liberation Movement/Army-in Opposition (SPLM/A-iO), including Machar.
  • Suspension: Following the charges, President Salva Kiir suspended Machar from his vice-presidency.
  • Court appearance: Machar was reportedly "whisked to court" on September 22, 2025, a move that put the capital city of Juba on edge.
  • Commentary: Political observers have raised concerns about the trial's fairness. Political commentator Samuel Peter Oyay described it as a "charade to eliminate any form of opposition to President Kiir".
  • House arrest: Since March, Machar has been under house arrest. International organizations have repeatedly called for his release, fearing his detention could reignite the civil war.

Uganda’s 2026 Presidential Race: Bobi Wine Cleared to Challenge Museveni Again

Kampala
– Uganda’s opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, widely known as Bobi Wine, has been cleared by the Electoral Commission to contest in the 2026 presidential elections, reversing last week’s rejection of his nomination. The ruling sets up a tense rematch between the 42-year-old pop star-turned-politician and the country’s long-serving president, Yoweri Museveni, who is seeking his seventh consecutive term.

Museveni’s Grip on Power

At 81, Museveni is among Africa’s longest-ruling leaders, having seized power in 1986 after a guerrilla war. Over the years, he has consolidated control by amending Uganda’s constitution: first to scrap presidential term limits in 2005, then to remove the age cap of 75 in 2017, clearing the way for him to rule indefinitely. Supporters credit him with maintaining peace, expanding infrastructure, and growing Uganda’s economy. But critics argue that his decades in power have weakened democratic institutions and entrenched authoritarianism.

The Rise of Bobi Wine

Bobi Wine represents a generational shift. With his youthful image, urban popularity, and message of change, he has become the face of Uganda’s opposition, particularly among young voters. His National Unity Platform (NUP) now commands the largest opposition bloc in parliament, drawing its strength from urban working-class communities who feel left behind by Museveni’s government.

In the 2021 elections, Wine won 35 percent of the vote against Museveni’s 58 percent – the incumbent’s narrowest victory margin. Wine rejected the result, citing widespread fraud, ballot stuffing, and intimidation. The election period was marked by internet shutdowns, violent crackdowns, and at least 54 deaths in protests. Wine himself was placed under house arrest in the aftermath.

Concerns Ahead of 2026

As the 2026 race approaches, Wine insists he will not allow a repeat of 2021. Yet his supporters continue to report harassment, arbitrary arrests, and abductions allegedly carried out by security forces. Human rights groups warn that the political climate remains hostile for opposition parties.

The Electoral Commission maintains that it is creating a safer space for political campaigns. However, many Ugandans remain skeptical, with some doubting the commission’s independence from the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

Other Opposition Figures Weakened

Longtime opposition leader Kizza Besigye, who ran against Museveni four times, is currently detained in Kampala on treason charges after being arrested in November while returning from Kenya. His absence has weakened the broader opposition landscape, leaving Wine as Museveni’s principal challenger.

International Reactions

Uganda’s political trajectory has drawn attention from the international community. The United States, European Union, and human rights organizations have previously condemned election-related violence and restrictions on political freedoms. After the disputed 2021 vote, Washington imposed sanctions on senior Ugandan security officials accused of human rights abuses.

Analysts expect foreign governments to watch the 2026 elections closely. “Uganda remains a key security partner for the West in the fight against regional terrorism,” said a Nairobi-based political analyst, “but its democratic backsliding complicates those relationships.”

The African Union (AU) and regional blocs such as the East African Community (EAC) are also under pressure to ensure credible monitoring. However, critics argue that regional bodies have often been reluctant to challenge entrenched leaders.

Museveni’s Pitch vs. Wine’s Promise

Museveni is expected to campaign on stability and continuity, arguing that Uganda still needs steady leadership. Wine, by contrast, is positioning himself as the candidate of hope and generational renewal, promising to end corruption and open up political freedoms.

A Defining Test for Uganda’s Democracy

The 2026 elections may prove to be a turning point for Uganda. For some, the contest is a stark choice between continuity and change; for others, it is a test of whether elections in Uganda can be genuinely free and fair under Museveni’s long shadow.

As one Kampala-based activist put it: “This is not just about who wins. It’s about whether Uganda’s democracy survives.”

King Oyo visited Reach A Hand Uganda (RAHU)

The young monarch was the guest of honor at the launch of the Impact Forge Program, a mentorship initiative empowering youth-led organizations with guidance, resources, and capacity-building.
The visit was organized under the leadership of RAHU Founder and Team Leader, Humphrey Nabimanya, and drew an impressive guest list that reflected the partnership’s broad appeal. Attendees included leaders from the Tooro Kingdom—among them the Prime Minister of Tooro, Rt. Hon. Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire, ministers from the kingdom, and Princess Ruth Nsemere Komuntale. Civil society leaders, representatives from the Rotary Club, musicians such as Geosteady and Eddie Kenzo, and several political and cultural figures also graced the occasion.
What did King Oyo say about his plans for young people?

In his keynote address, King Oyo emphasized the central role of young people in shaping Uganda’s future. “I have placed young people at the centre of my 2025 agenda,” he declared, reaffirming his kingdom’s support for programs like Right Here Right Now (RHRN) and other initiatives that amplify youth voices.

The King also highlighted the significance of the day: “Today, we launch the Impact Forge Program that will support young people in Uganda with innovation and mentorship. Culture is not static, it is dynamic and constantly changing. May this day mark the beginning of a long-lasting partnership that supports youth to unlock their full potential.”

Listen to Miriam Matembe's leaked phone call recordings. Ex Museveni minister wanted to meet Bobi Wine. Listen

According to sources close to the matter, Matembe was allegedly involved in spreading information that was ultimately dismissed as false. In a surprising twist, her claims were reportedly rejected outright by none other than Mzee—a figure widely respected in Uganda’s political hierarchy.

The rejection, described by insiders as both swift and stern, is said to have stunned Matembe to such an extent that she fainted and had to be urgently hospitalized.

Following this unexpected dismissal, Matembe allegedly reached out to MP Joel Ssenyonyi in what appears to have been a last-ditch effort to keep her narrative alive. In the now-viral audio clip, Matembe is heard urging Ssenyonyi to help amplify her message.

While the full context of the conversation remains unclear, the tone and urgency in her voice have raised eyebrows and left many wondering about the nature of her claims—and why she was so desperate to have them heard.
“This is not just political drama—it’s a moment of reckoning about the consequences of misinformation and the high stakes of political storytelling,” one analyst commented. “Matembe miscalculated, and now the public is witnessing the fallout in real time.”

Indeed, the incident has ignited a larger conversation about how misinformation—whether deliberate or unintentional—can rapidly spiral out of control, especially in today’s hyperconnected digital age. Social media platforms lit up as the audio clip circulated, with Ugandans from all walks of life sharing their thoughts, memes, and hot takes on the developing saga.

Political observers say the fallout could have lasting implications not just for Matembe, but also for MP Ssenyonyi, who now finds himself pulled into a controversy that he may not have anticipated. Although his role in the conversation appears to be more passive than active, his involvement alone has thrust him into the spotlight.
As more information continues to surface, the public remains gripped by the unfolding drama. The leaked phone call has offered a rare and unfiltered glimpse into the behind-the-scenes maneuvering that often shapes Uganda’s political discourse. And with questions still lingering about the origin, content, and purpose of Matembe’s claims, this story is far from over.

For now, one thing is clear: this incident has thrown open a window into the complex, high-stakes world of political messaging—and reminded the public that not all strategies go according to plan.

Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu - Bobi Wine 2025 - 2026 nomination updates | Bobi Wine news | Bobi Wine Live updates

“Hold the flag with pride. Uganda belongs to us. We all have equal shares,” Kyagulanyi Sentamu - Bobi Wine said to thunderous chants from the crowd
Opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, better known as Bobi Wine, was formally nominated on Wednesday as a candidate in Uganda’s 2026 presidential election, before addressing a sea of supporters who thronged the streets of Nateete to cheer him.
Kyagulanyi, the flagbearer of the National Unity Platform (NUP), told the rally that Uganda’s four decades under President Yoweri Museveni had been marked by repression and economic injustice.

“For 40 long years, one man and a small group of his relatives and friends have ruled our country at gunpoint,” he said.
“They have looted our nation and turned every institution of government into a tool of oppression. They have reduced the citizens of Uganda into slaves on their own land,” he emphasised as his fans cheered him on.“They have reduced all of us into beggars, and they’ve turned our poverty into a tool of control, and yet, our country is not poor, our country is rich.”

World Rhino Day 2025: The conservation miracle in Assam’s Kaziranga, as the national park boasts 70% of the world’s one-horned rhinos after starting with just 12

The day also highlights the significance of retaining the rhino population for environmental balance, cultural enrichment, and forest preservation. It is an appeal to join hands in the struggle for rhino protection globally.
The concept of World Rhino Day was initially conceived in 2010, when WWF-South Africa announced it as an action day. A year later, it became recognized globally, courtesy of wildlife conservationists Lisa Jane Campbell and Rhishja, who ensured that it spread around the world. Black, White, Greater One-Horned (Indian), Javan, and Sumatran are the five last remaining species of rhinos. All of them are facing extinction. Their greatest challenges are poaching of horns, illegal wildlife trade, and habitat loss due to deforestation and human settlements.

By commemorating World Rhino Day, the world shines the light on these dangers and urges more action, be it anti-poaching drives, habitat protection, or strict implementation of laws.

Amidst all these stories in the international rhino saga, there is a different page which is written in India, Kaziranga National Park, where the rhinos have achieved one of the most amazing turnarounds in wildlife history.

Asiedu Nketia explains rationale behind his 'Thank You Tour'

The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has embarked on a thank-you tour in the Nsawam Adoagyiri Constituency to acknowledge the efforts of party executives and grassroots members in the 2024 parliamentary election.
Addressing party executives and supporters, he explained that while President John Dramani Mahama and Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang spearheaded the presidential campaign, he took charge of the parliamentary front.
He credited the combined efforts of the grassroots with helping the NDC secure more parliamentary seats in the election.

He noted that the tour was a way of expressing gratitude for the support and sacrifices that contributed to the party’s parliamentary success.

Adding his voice, a representative of the Nsawam Adoagyiri Chief appealed to the NDC government to prioritise solving pressing challenges in the constituency, particularly unemployment, in order to create more opportunities for the youth.
Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, also lent her support, commending the constituency’s efforts and urging continued unity as the party works to deliver on its promises.

Uganda to UAE visa ban/restrictions cause tension on Ugandans.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced a 2026 visa ban affecting nine African and European nations, barring their citizens from applying for tourist and work visas.

According to an immigration circular, seen by The Eastleigh Voice, Uganda, Sudan, Somalia, Cameroon, and Libya are among those currently barred from applying for the visas.
The ban also affects applicants from Afghanistan, Yemen, Lebanon and Bangladesh, with applications from these countries not being processed until further notice.
"Nationals from certain countries are currently restricted from applying for UAE tourist visas and UAE work permits. Applications from these countries are not being accepted temporarily," the notice reads.

Although the UAE government has not publicly outlined the specific reasons, multiple reports link the restrictions to security concerns, strained diplomatic relations and health-related protocols first introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Gulf state has previously imposed similar restrictions, including on Nigerian applicants, though official confirmation has often varied.

The restrictions have disrupted expatriate communities and slowed business and tourism ties with the affected countries. For many, the UAE is a critical source of employment, with remittances playing a vital role in supporting families back home.

Workers from Bangladesh and African states, in particular, have also reported difficulties securing new contracts or renewing permits.

However, foreign nationals from the affected countries who are already living legally in the UAE with valid visas remain unaffected.

The visa ban is distinct from a travel ban, which applies to individuals regardless of nationality for reasons such as overstaying, holding forged documents or having unresolved criminal cases.

If and once lifted, citizens of the affected countries will be able to reapply for UAE tourist visas and work permits through official online portals, embassies or immigration offices.

For now, all other travellers must comply with standard UAE entry requirements, including a valid passport, approved UAE visa, negative COVID-19 test, proof of vaccination and adherence to health and quarantine regulations.

No more tourist and work visas for Ugandans - UAE Government confirms Uganda visa ban.

The directive was shared through an immigration circular and is said to be temporary. However, officials have also stated that the suspension will last indefinitely until further notice. Uganda is not the only country affected — eight other nations, including Cameroon, Sudan, and Somalia, are also on the list. So far, the UAE government has not given an official reason for the ban. But different reports suggest that the move is connected to security concerns and wider political issues in the region. The UAE has made similar decisions in the past, especially when dealing with migration from African countries. This is not the first time Ugandans have faced visa restrictions from the UAE. Back in 2022, the country limited the issuing of 30-day visit visas to Ugandans and nationals of 20 other countries. At that time, the authorities explained that some people were overstaying their visas or using short-term permits to look for unauthorized jobs.
The UAE is made up of seven emirates, including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah. It has many types of entry permits, such as student visas, retirement visas, tourist visas, and work permits. Each type is designed for a specific purpose. But with the new suspension in place, Ugandans will no longer be able to apply for work or tourist visas after 2026.
The news has raised concern in Uganda because the UAE is one of the top destinations for Ugandan workers. It is estimated that more than 100,000 Ugandans are legally employed in the UAE. They work in many sectors, including domestic service, beauty salons, construction, and hospitality.
For many families back home, money sent from relatives working in the UAE is a lifeline. These remittances help pay for school fees, medical bills, and daily living expenses. With the new visa suspension, many fear that opportunities to earn money abroad will become harder to find.
There is also uncertainty about whether Ugandans already living and working in the UAE will be affected. Some wonder if they will face challenges when renewing their permits once the new rules take full effect. Without clear communication from UAE authorities, many workers remain worried about their future.
In Uganda, the announcement has sparked debate. Some say the government should urgently negotiate with UAE leaders to protect the jobs of its citizens. Others believe the country must start creating more employment opportunities locally so that young people do not have to rely on risky jobs abroad.
While the suspension is expected to last “until further notice,” it is not yet clear if or when the UAE will lift the restrictions. For now, thousands of Ugandans hoping to travel or work in the Emirates must prepare for tough changes ahead.

Donald Trump and first lady Melania helicopter forced to make emergency landing at London Airport.

While making their return from Chequers, the country house of Prime Minister Keir Starmer, the helicopter carrying the Trumps experienced a small “hydraulic” problem. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said “due to a minor hydraulic issue” the aircraft carrying the US president landed at Luton Airport.

She said the decision was taken “out of an abundance of caution”, adding that the US president “safely boarded the support helicopter” before continuing on to Stansted. Their arrival was delayed by several minutes. Emergency services were seen at Luton following the landing. No injuries were reported Original update on Independent UK

M23 rebels parade troops in Eastern Congo, Tensions arise.

Arcording to Africanews.com; Over the weekend, M23 staged a military parade in Goma, showcasing more than 7,000 new recruits. The group claimed the fighters included surrendered Congolese soldiers and local militia members. But rights groups warn many may have been coerced.

Christian Rumu of Amnesty International says the situation is troubling.

The parade comes just weeks before Congo, Rwanda and mediators are expected to sign a peace deal in Washington. A key element of the agreement would be Rwanda’s withdrawal of support for M23 and the return of captured territory to Congolese authorities.

But fresh skirmishes and mutual accusations of ceasefire violations are already undermining confidence.

The conflict has fueled a humanitarian crisis: at least 3,000 people killed, millions displaced, and a U.N. report citing “horrific atrocities” — from gang rape and sexual slavery to torture and killings — committed by both the Congolese army and the rebels.

For many in eastern Congo, hopes for peace remain fragile, overshadowed by the latest show of force.

Bassajjabalaba 142 Billion UGX City Market Refund case in Supreme Court cleared

Uganda’s Supreme Court in Kampala has overturned a landmark Constitutional Court decision that had ordered tycoon Hassan Basajjabalaba and his companies to refund billions of shillings in compensation for terminated city market contracts, ruling that the petition was filed in the wrong court and involved contested facts outside the Constitutional Court’s jurisdiction. Between 2000 and 2011, Kampala City Council (KCC) granted Basajjabalaba-linked firms — Haba Group, Sheila Investments, Victoria International, and First Merchant International Trading — leases to manage Nakasero, St. Balikuddembe (Owino), Shauri Yako, and Nakawa markets, as well as Constitutional Square. When KCC later cancelled the deals citing irregularities, the companies sought compensation.

The government settled their claims through payments and loan guarantees worth over Shs 142 billion ($37 million), facilitated by Bank of Uganda and commercial banks. In 2012, rights watchdog Legal Brains Trust petitioned the Constitutional Court, arguing the contracts were unconstitutional because they lacked the Attorney General’s approval under Article 119(5) of the Constitution, and alleging fraud in the compensation process.

In 2020, the Constitutional Court, by 3-2 majority, agreed, nullified the contracts, and ordered the Attorney General to recover the payouts. Read full article on ChimpReports

    Review of Apple iPhone Air.

The iPhone Air features a single 48MP Fusion camera with 2x optical quality zoom. No telephoto. No ultrawide. But it is a pretty strong performer based on my testing. Just don’t expect much from the 10x digital zoom.

The iPhone Air does bring some cool new camera features to the table that are also available on the iPhone 17, 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max. This includes an 18MP Center Stage front camera that leverages a square sensor to let you shoot landscape selfies without having to flip the phone in your hand
To test the iPhone Air’s camera I put it up against the Galaxy S25 Edge, starting with this shot of produce. The iPhone Air delivers much more realistic looking red and orange peppers with better sharpness. The coloring is off on the S25 Edge.
In this portrait comparison shot at 2x, the iPhone Air delivers a brighter looking image, but I much prefer the level of detail through the S25 Edge. The edges around my shirt look blurry.

'are you okay?' Donald Trump asked punicking Prince William during meeting.

A sweet exchange between the Prince and Princess of Wales has been spotted by a lip-reader They walked over the grass at Windsor Castle to meet the Trumps as they arrived at the site for an afternoon of engagements, before walking them over to meet King Charles and Queen Camilla. Nicola J Hickling told The Express she believes the Princess of Wales complained "My heels are sinking” as they walked across the Windsor Castle lawn to greet Donald and Melania Trump. Ahead of the handshakes, William thoughtfully glanced down, concern flickering across his face, and reportedly asked: "Are you okay though?". Lip-readers have been busy analysing the interactions between the Royal Family members and the US President. Trump and the King were seen exchanging words at many stages throughout their time together, including before and after the military parade they watched on the grounds of Windsor Castle.

Nicola added: "The King [was] mindful of both decorum and safety, while Trump leaned into his characteristic mix of praise and interruption. "Inspecting the troops, King Charles can be seen cautioning Donald Trump with a gentle, 'Watch the sword,' as they moved past the ceremonial display. Trump, clearly in good spirits, responded admiringly with, 'Isn’t he superb,' before attempting to add, 'Thank you and well done.' At that point, Charles smoothly ushered him along, keeping the flow of the procession intact." Meanwhile, lip-readers believe that Trump showed his true feelings about Prince William in an exchange earlier today. Lip-reader Jeremy Freeman said that Trump, speaking to the King, pointed to Prince William and said, "He's like you, somebody who can open up all the global connections and make things happen. I'll say he's a good man, and if you want something, he's a good guy."

Porta Potty sex ring | Dubai sex-trafficking ring targeting African women.

An investigation has revealed a degrading sex-trafficking ring targeting African women allegedly run by a former London bus driver in the wealthy Gulf emirate.
A Dubai sex trafficking network has been linked to the deaths of at least two women and the abuse of dozens of others, according to a BBC exposé on the dark underbelly of the Gulf emirate.

An investigation by the BBC World Service has identified a former West London bus driver as an alleged key figure in a prostitution ring that forces Ugandan women to undertake extreme sex work for wealthy, mainly white European clients.

He told an undercover reporter posing as a client that he could provide women who would do "pretty much everything".

Rumours of extreme sex parties in Dubai have surfaced on the internet in recent years. The viral hashtag #DubaiPortaPotty has become notorious, with internet users speculating about young women travelling to the emirate and being paid money to participate in sex acts involving human faeces.

One Ugandan woman, referred to as Mia by the BBC, claimed the man named in the BBC investigation forced her into sex work by trapping her with thousands of pounds of debt.

"That means you have to work hard, hard, hard, pleading for men to come and sleep [with] you," she said.

Another woman, known as Lexi, described clients' frequent degrading and abusive requests.

"There was a client who said: 'We pay you 15,000 Arab Emirates Dirham ($4,084, £3,013) to gang-rape you, pee in your face, beat you, and add in 5,000 ($1,361, £1,004)' for being recorded eating faeces," she told the outlet.

She believes clients targeted her because of her race.

"Every time I said that I wouldn't want to do that, it seemed to get them more interested. They want somebody who is going to cry and scream and run. And that somebody [in their eyes] should be a black person," she said.

A man who said he used to work as the network's operations manager told the outlet that presidents, footballers and musicians were among the ring's powerful clientele.

Lexi said that the police refused to help her.

"You Africans cause problems for each other. We don't want to get involved. And they would hang up," she said.

The Dubai police didn't respond to the BBC's request for comment.

Monic Karungi, from western Uganda, died shortly after escaping the ring in 2022.

Having been more than $27,000 in debt, she later managed to find another job and moved to a new apartment.

Four days later, she was found dead after falling from her balcony.

Another Ugandan woman, Kayla Birungi, was found dead in 2021 in similar circumstances. Multiple people told the BBC that the apartment she fell from was managed by the same former bus driver.

The Dubai police ruled both of their deaths as suicides, though friends and family members were unhappy with their investigations.

The man denied the allegations when approached by the BBC.

Ugandan Women Lured to Dubai Trapped in Exploitation, BBC Probe Reveals

A BBC investigation has uncovered an alleged sex trafficking network operating in Dubai’s upscale districts, leaving young Ugandan women trapped in abuse, debt, and danger.

At the centre of the allegations is Charles Mwesigwa, a Ugandan man who once claimed to be a London bus driver. Posing as a party organiser, a BBC undercover reporter spoke with Mwesigwa, who appeared to openly offer women for sex parties at a base rate of $1,000 (£740). He described the women as “open-minded” and willing to meet extreme client demands.

Behind the glamour of Dubai’s nightlife, the investigation found a darker reality: Ugandan women recruited with promises of retail or hospitality jobs were allegedly coerced into sex work instead. Several victims said they were immediately saddled with debts for visas, flights, and housing — debts that grew rapidly and forced them into degrading acts to repay.

One survivor, “Mia,” recounted being forced to endure violent and humiliating fetishes, including defecation, at the request of wealthy clients. Another woman, “Lexi,” said she was offered money to be gang-raped, filmed, and abused — and claimed police refused to intervene when she sought help.

The probe also raised concerns about suspicious deaths linked to Mwesigwa’s network. Two Ugandan women, Monic Karungi and Kayla Birungi, died after falling from high-rise apartments in Dubai in 2021 and 2022. Both cases were officially ruled as suicides, but families and friends dispute the findings, pointing to inconsistencies in toxicology reports and unanswered questions about their final days.

Monic’s relatives say she was trying to leave Mwesigwa’s control shortly before her death. Her family has never recovered her remains, and she is believed to be buried in an unmarked grave in Dubai.

Activists warn these cases highlight a wider pipeline of exploitation. Thousands of Ugandans migrate to Gulf states each year seeking work, contributing over $1.2 billion annually to Uganda’s economy in remittances. But, campaigners say, many young women are falling victim to trafficking networks instead of finding the opportunities they were promised.

Mwesigwa denies all allegations, insisting he is simply a “party organiser” who knows many women socially. He told the BBC: “These are all false allegations. I am just a party person.”

Dubai police did not respond to repeated requests for comment.

For families of victims, the unanswered questions remain painful. “We are all looking at Monic’s death,” said her relative Michael. “But who is there for the girls still alive? They’re still there. Still suffering.”

Burkinafaso is now visa free to all Africans

From now on, any citizen from an African country wishing to go to Burkina Faso will not pay any amount to cover visa fees," said Mahamadou Sana, the country's security minister, following a cabinet meeting chaired by military leader Capt Ibrahim Traoré on Thursday.

African visitors will however be required to submit an online visa application, which will be reviewed for approval, the minister clarified.

The West African nation joins countries such as Ghana, Rwanda and Kenya, which have eased travel requirements for African visitors.
Citizens of West African countries can already travel to Burkina Faso without the need for visas, however this may change in the future because the country has pulled out of the regional bloc, Ecowas, along with its neighbours, Mali and Niger which are also under military rule.

Capt Traoré, a young soldier who seized power in a 2022 coup, portrays himself as a champion of Pan-Africanism, while often criticising the West and colonialism.

He is admired in the continent for his charismatic leadership. His popularity has been fuelled through social media, including many misleading posts intended to bolster his revolutionary image.

But Capt Traoré has also faced criticism for his authoritarian style of governance, his handling of dissent and the ongoing Islamist insurgency.
Like its Sahel neighbours, Burkina Faso has been battling armed jihadist groups, with an estimated 40% of the country under their control.

Despite promises by Capt Traoré's military government to improve security and seeking new partnerships with Russia, the situation remains dire with frequent attacks.

The scrapping of visa fees for the continent's nationals reflects Burkina Faso's attachment to Pan-Africanist ideals and promotes regional integration, a statement from the junta's information service said late on Thursday.

"This free visa system for African nationals will also help promote tourism and Burkinabe culture, and improve Burkina Faso's visibility abroad," it added.

Several African countries have tried to ease travel requirements for visitors from elsewhere on the continent in recent years, with studies showing it is often easier for citizens of Western countries to visit.

The move to facilitate travel within the continent is also being pushed by the African Union (AU).

Earlier this year, Ghana said all African passport holders would now be able to visit without needing a visa.

Last year, Kenya introduced a "visa-free" policy that required most visitors to apply online for authorisation before leaving their country.

African visitors to Rwanda also do not need a visa to enter the country.

Elon Musk's reign as world's richest man ends as Larry Ellison takes over

The Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison has overtaken Elon Musk to become the world’s richest person, ending Musk’s nearly year-long dominance
Ellison’s net worth surged by $101 billion (about KSh 13 trillion) in a single day after Oracle reported strong quarterly results
Oracle’s stock price soared 40% on investor confidence in its aggressive expansion into artificial intelligence and cloud computing. Ellison has ended Musk’s nearly year-long dominance at the top of the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
How did Ellison rise over Musk?
Ellison’s fortune surged by an astonishing $101 billion (about KSh 13 trillion) in a single day after Oracle Corp. announced quarterly results that exceeded Wall Street expectations and delivered an optimistic long-term revenue forecast.

The jump represents the sharpest one-day wealth gain ever recorded by the index.

Oracle CEO Safra Catz described the just-ended quarter as “astonishing,” noting the company had secured four multi-billion-dollar contracts with three different customers.

He projected that its cloud business revenues would grow 77% this fiscal year to $18 billion and further rise to $32 billion, $73 billion, $114 billion, and $144 billion in subsequent years.

This sparked a rally in its stock prices.

    How rich is Ellison?

As of September 10, 2025, Ellison’s net worth now stands at $393 billion, eclipsing Musk’s $385 billion.

The surge came after Oracle’s stock price soared 40% on investor confidence in the company’s aggressive push into artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing.

    What isElon Musk's compensation package?

In other news, Tesla recently awarded CEO Elon Musk a massive $29 billion (about KSh 3.7 trillion) compensation package in the form of 96 million restricted stock shares.

The board defended the decision, noting that Musk has not received “meaningful compensation” for eight years despite delivering extraordinary growth and shareholder value.

Tesla shares rose over 2% after the announcement, underscoring investor confidence in Musk’s leadership.

Tesla continues its global expansion, including a new African subsidiary in Morocco to support sales, servicing, and charging infrastructure.

Larry Ellison is the richest man in the world. surpasses Tesla’s Musk.

On Wednesday 10 September 2025, as stock in Ellison’s software giant rocketed more than a third in a stunning few minutes of trading, Ellison’s net worth surpassed the Tesla CEO, according to wealth tracker Bloomberg. As of 3pm in New York (19:00 GMT), Oracle stock is up 34.4 percent for the day.

Ellison, 81, is now worth $393bn, according to Bloomberg. That is several billion more than Musk, who had been the world’s richest person for four years running. Stock in one of Musk’s biggest holdings, Tesla, has been moving in the opposite direction of Oracle’s, dropping 14 percent so far this year as of Tuesday.
The switch in the ranking came after a blockbuster earnings report from Oracle, powered by multibillion-dollar orders from customers as the AI race heats up.

Ellison’s net worth is largely derived from his 41 percent stake in Oracle.

Another news organisation with a long history of tallying the world’s richest, Forbes, still has Musk at the top, at $439bn. Bloomberg put his net worth at $385bn. The difference is in how the two estimate the value of Musk’s rocket company SpaceX, among other private holdings. It comes as Tesla shareholders have offered Musk a $1 trillion compensation package.

With Ellison’s surging fortune on Wednesday, he could fund the lifestyles of five million US families for a year, about the entire population of Florida, allowing them to all quit their jobs, assuming the US median household income.

Chinese EV tech is reshaping global auto design. How Chinese EV tech is reshaping global auto design

In the picture is The Audi E5 Sportback, the first model of Audi's series of electric vehicles (EVs) jointly developed with SAIC, is showcased at a Volkswagen event in Shanghai, China April 22, 2025.

When Audi executives first saw the Zeekr 001 in 2021, a long-range electric vehicle with European aesthetics, it was a wake-up call for the premium German auto brand - if it wanted to compete with the Chinese, it needed their technology.
"The Zeekr 001 back then shocked quite everyone," said Stefan Poetzl, president of SAIC Audi Sales and Marketing. "We needed to do something about it."
To boost its EV lineup for Chinese consumers, Audi built the AUDI E5 Sportback in just 18 months using technology provided by Chinese partner SAIC, including batteries, electric powertrain, infotainment software and advanced driving assisted systems.
Audi expects to start delivering the $33,000 EV to customers in China this month and its global rivals are now also looking to use Chinese intellectual property to roll out new models rapidly. Toyota and Volkswagen have joint development plans for China-dedicated models with technology from Chinese partners GAC and Xpeng, respectively.
Renault and Ford want to go one step further and develop global models on Chinese EV platforms, sources said. Renault did not respond to a request for comment. Ford declined to comment.

Which Wireless Earbuds Are Better? AirPods Pro 3 vs Pixel Buds.

If you’re wondering which trigger to pull, here’s a breakdown of which pair of wireless earbuds does what.
    Sound
Apple Event iPhone Apple Watch AirPods

While I haven’t gotten to hear Apple’s AirPods Pro 3 for myself yet, these wireless earbuds have a new architecture that Apple says should bring some improvements over the last generation. According to Apple, AirPods Pro 3 have a new “multiport acoustic architecture” that better controls the airflow and the way the sound carries to the ear. How demonstrable that change is remains to be seen, but it should be the best-sounding pair of AirPods yet, if Apple’s messaging is any indication.

Similarly, the Pixel Buds Pro 2 mark a significant boost in sound quality over the original iteration, with 11mm drivers that help augment both high and low ends. Which architecture delivers better sound quality will come down to preference, and we won’t know for sure until we try AirPods Pro 3 for ourselves, but both should be the best-sounding version in their respective product lines. AirPods Pro 3 will have tough competition, though—we thought the Pixel Buds Pro 2 were damn near perfect.

Israeli airstrikes on Yemen kill at least 35, Houthi officials say

Israel launched another round of heavy airstrikes in Yemen on Wednesday, killing dozens just days after Houthi rebels carried out a drone attack that struck an Israeli airport.

The Israeli strikes killed at least 35 people and wounded more than 130 others, the Houthi-run health ministry said. Search crews were continuing to dig through the rubble.
aimed at ending the war and freeing hostages still held by Hamas in Gaza.

Hamas claims its senior leadership, who were weighing a new U.S. ceasefire proposal, survived the strike, which killed two lower-ranking members and three bodyguards.

The war in Gaza began when Hamas-led militants stormed into southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, abducting 251 people and killing some 1,200, mostly civilians. Forty-eight hostages are still held inside Gaza, around 20 of them believed to be alive.

Israel’s retaliatory offensive has killed more than 64,600 Palestinians, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. The ministry does not say how many were civilians or combatants but says women and children make up around half the dead.

Israel says it tries to avoid harming civilians and blames Hamas for their deaths because the militants operate in densely populated areas. Large parts of major cities in Gaza have been completely destroyed.
